The conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified following another exchange of attacks between the two countries.

The United States carried out a new series of airstrikes against Iran on Saturday night. According to US military officials, the operation targeted Iranian air-defence systems and facilities used to monitor activity along the country's coastline.

The US Central Command said the strikes damaged Iranian military capabilities. Iranian state media also reported that Qeshm Island, located near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, was hit during the latest US operation.

US Targets Iranian Revolutionary Guard Forces

The US military said some of the strikes were directed at forces belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Washington accused these forces of being involved in the attack in Jordan on Friday that resulted in the deaths of two US service members.

One other American service member is still reported missing following the attack.

The US said the latest operation was intended both to weaken Iran's military capabilities and to reduce the threat posed to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Claims Attacks on US Military Bases in Kuwait

Iran also reported carrying out attacks against American military facilities in Kuwait.

According to Iranian state media, drones were used to target two US locations — a military facility at Camp Udairi and Ali Al Salem Air Base. Iran described the operation as a large-scale drone attack.

The reports added to concerns that the conflict could spread beyond Iran and the areas directly involved in the fighting.

Strait of Hormuz Remains a Major Concern

The latest US military operation was carried out amid growing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. The important waterway is a major route for the international transportation of oil and other energy supplies.

The US military said its strikes were aimed at reducing Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the region. Any continued disruption in the area could have an impact on global trade and energy markets.

Two US Service Members Killed in Jordan

The latest escalation followed a deadly attack in Jordan on Friday.

US Central Command said two American service members were killed while US and partner forces were responding to Iranian missile and drone attacks. Another service member remains missing.

The identities of the deceased personnel were not immediately released as the US military continued the process of informing their families.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth paid tribute to the fallen service members, saying their sacrifice would strengthen America's determination.

Conflict Continues After Ceasefire Breakdown

The latest attacks are part of a wider escalation that has continued for several days. Both Washington and Tehran have accused each other of attacking military facilities and important infrastructure.

A preliminary agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached in June in an effort to end the conflict. However, the agreement broke down within weeks. US President Donald Trump later declared the agreement over on July 8.

The American death toll in the conflict has now reached 16 after a US Navy pilot who had gone missing earlier in the month was declared dead.

As the United States and Iran continue their military operations, fears are growing that the conflict could expand into a wider regional crisis. The situation remains closely watched by countries around the world because of its possible impact on Middle Eastern security, international shipping and global energy supplies.
