Schools Closed on July 22
Jammu and Kashmir:
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has extended the summer vacation by three days. As a result, all schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division will remain closed on July 22 due to the forecast of heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Nainital, Uttarakhand:
The district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres in Nainital after the IMD warned of heavy rain and possible landslides. Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
Himachal Pradesh:
Schools in Sirmaur district will remain closed on July 22. Earlier, educational institutions in Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Sirmaur were shut following a Red Alert issued by the IMD. For other districts, local authorities will decide whether to suspend classes depending on weather conditions.
Districts on High Alert
Authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions in several districts, including Shimla, Kullu and Solan, where schools may also be closed if rainfall becomes more severe. Parents and students have been advised to follow official announcements from their district administrations and schools.
IMD Issues Widespread Rainfall Warning
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across many parts of the country, including
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and other northeastern states. Some hilly regions could also experience flash floods, landslides and road blockages.
Safety Advisory for Parents
Officials have urged parents to check the latest notifications issued by schools and district administrations before sending children to school, as weather conditions may change rapidly. Additional holidays or class suspensions could be announced at short notice if rainfall intensifies.
